Nestled within the historic grounds of Kobo-ji Temple in Mita, Tokyo, "Terakoya NINJA" is more than a destination—it is a philosophy.
Our name carries a dual legacy:

We believe that the true essence of Japan—the Way of Tea (Sado), the Art of Flowers (Kado), and the grace of Kimono—is a universal language that bridges cultures and hearts. We offer a bespoke, private experience designed to awaken your senses and connect you to the profound spirit of Japanese heritage.

The Journey to a Comprehensive Art Form
“I believe it is essential to have a space where one can experience Japanese culture as a ‘comprehensive art form,’ free from the constraints of any single school or style.”
Thank you for visiting Terakoya NINJA. My name is Tae Iwasawa.
The inspiration for this sanctuary stems from two pivotal chapters of my life. During mychildhood, I spent every summer in a 300-year-old samurai residence built in the Edo era. Immersed in the rhythm of traditional life and nature, I unknowingly absorbed the foundation of Japanese aesthetics—a pedigree of culture that lives within me.
In my early twenties, I embarked on a solo journey through over 20 countries. To date, my explorations have taken me to more than 40 nations worldwide. These journeys taught me a vital lesson: regardless of borders, understanding one’s cultural roots and respecting etiquette and dress codes is the ultimate key to true international connection.
Upon returning to Japan, I dedicated myself to the mastery of traditional arts. However, I noticed that the rigid boundaries between different "Ryuha" (schools) often obscured the holistic beauty of our culture.
Terakoya NINJA was born from the vision to dissolve these borders. We provide a space where the "Art of Stillness" can be experienced in its most refined, integrated form. I am still on my own journey of discovery, and I would be honored to uncover the beauty of Japan together with you.
